When we first came across Innogames, it was already successful by any measure. It had been truly bootstrapped, with no external funding, but was growing fast and with a modest sized workforce, had already become profitable.
The founders--extraordinarily for Germany--had dropped out of college because their side business had been too successful to make any other choice. But given this was the first job any of them had ever had, they didn't know what they didn't know. More than capital, they wanted a partner to help them build a global success story in a rapidly growing market.
We made a minority investment in H1 2010, and since then we've gotten involved in all aspects of the business, from the creation of a board structure, establishing a long term growth strategy, employee incentives, and financial controls. Another key milestone has been the recruitment of a Chairman of the board with deep commercial experience in the games industry, having been a top executive at Electronic Arts.
Today, Innogames and FGPE are continuing to build a global success and the company has now scaled up to 120 employees, 60M+ global users and increasing financial performance.
